Chief Technology Officer
Large-scale real-time simulations in an offshore setting with accurate physics. Are you our next CTO?
We usually respond within a week
About OSC
Situated in the beautiful City of Ålesund, Norway, OSC is a global pioneer in Simulation, virtual prototyping and digital twins.
Our ~50-person team, which spans 15 nationalities, builds advanced simulation solutions used by the offshore energy industry worldwide. We combine real-time physics, 3D visualisation, and hardware integration to create tools that make complex operations safer, more efficient, and easier to understand.
The CTO role in OSC
OSC's current CTO is stepping into the CEO role, creating an opportunity for a technically strong leader to shape the next chapter of our product and platform. Given the leadership team's deep technical background, we value hands-on engineering expertise and leadership potential over prior C-level experience.
The incoming CTO will inherit a clear and compelling technical agenda. We are investing in standardising our platform architecture to improve development efficiency, enable reuse across projects, and support a more scalable, product-led business model. At the same time, we are actively working to reduce accumulated technical debt and raise the bar on engineering quality.
This is a fully on-site role based at our Ålesund office, where the majority of the engineering team is located.
Key responsibilities:
Technical leadership: Own the architecture, technology stack decisions, and long-term technical roadmap. Stay close enough to development to maintain meaningful oversight without becoming a bottleneck. Balance and prioritise technical work across product development, customer commitments, and commercial requests.
Team and talent: Hire, develop, and retain strong engineers across a team of ~30 developers. Set the engineering culture, establish clear expectations around quality and delivery, and ensure effective collaboration between engineering and the rest of the business.
Strategy and external engagement: Align technology decisions with business goals and own reliability, security, and compliance. Stay current on emerging technologies, particularly AI and its application to simulation and digital twins. Build strong relationships with key customers and technology partners, and contribute actively to OSC's overall strategy as a member of the leadership team.
Our technology stack:
Unity3D and C# for the 3D frontend
Java for the real-time simulator backend
React for web applications and 2D interfaces
NATS for inter-service communication
Algoryx as the physics engine
OPC-UA, CANbus/Modbus, and other protocols for hardware integration
AWS as our cloud platform
Strong candidates will have deep experience in at least one of these areas and a solid grasp of software architecture and engineering best practices. Background in the offshore or ocean industries is not required, but is an advantage.

Technical
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Strong software engineering background with experience in one or more of the technologies in our stack
Experience with real-time simulation, 3D visualisation, or embedded/hardware integration
Solid understanding of software architecture, system design, and engineering best practices
Familiarity with AI and how it can be applied to simulation, digital twins, or industrial products
Leadership
Proven experience leading engineering teams in a technology-focused organisation
